Our Philosophy To offer a program of Christ centered, child oriented Christian nurturing in a church environment. Click here for a current brochure.
Our Program Classes are open to children two to five years of age. We operate on a nondiscriminatory basis, providing equal treatment and access to services without regard to race or religion. Classes of children are grouped by age and are in session from 9am to 12pm following the San Diego City School Calendar. All children, except those in the Toddler Classes (2 yrs. old) are expected to be toilet trained. Toddler classes of eight children meet two days a week with mothers assisting in the classroom. Our school meets the licensing requirements of the State of California. Our license allows for 64 children in attendance each day. We are accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs.

50 Years of Service

1955 – 2005
Two-thousand five marked the 50th anniversary of our Church Preschool. Fifty years of little people learning to be big people in a gentle, nurturing Christian atmosphere. The La Jolla Presbyterian Church Preschool was conceived as an extension of the Christian Education Program and a supplement to the Sunday School Program. The Minister of Education, Al McNair, and the Christian Education Commission, under the leadership of Jim Snodgrass, worked out the details for the first class of 17 students. Margaret Scyster became the Director with Katherine Schaeffer as the first teacher. The class was held in the Church Lounge. The playground was the patio between the Kirk House and the Chapel with the Kirk House used on rainy days. Most of the equipment was outgrown wagons, tricycles, and one fire engine – all donated by parents. In 1956, a second class was added with Eleanore Snodgrass as the teacher. In 1957 construction was completed on the first portion of the Children’s Education Building on the north side of the Sanctuary and the Preschool moved into that building. This area is still used for all educational activities for children from nursery to 6th grade. The final phase of the building was finished in 1965, which gave the Preschool an enclosed play yard with a cement patio. Today we have 5 classrooms for 2, 3 & 4 year olds with an enrollment of 90 children and 11 people on our Staff.
