Choral and Music Ministry

Chancel Choir
The LJPC Chancel Choir helps lead the church in worship and ministry by singing at the 8:45 and 11:00 services most Sundays. Other ministries include a Christmas Program and a Spring Concert, both accompanied with orchestra, as well as special services during the year.

The mission of the LJPC Chancel Choir is to glorify God and minister to both its congregation and its community by leading worship through the expressive and artistic singing of meaningful choral music. The choir’s repertoire spans many styles, from classical and traditional to contemporary, gospel, and folk. The Chancel Choir is a family which seeks to support its members in musical, personal, and spiritual growth.

  • Membership is open to all singers, high school age and older, who enjoy singing and have the ability to sing in tune.
  • Rehearsals are Thursdays, 7:00-8:30 p.m, and Sundays, 10:10-11:00., in Slusser Hall (Family Life Center). To join, call Brooke.

Youth Music Ministry
The LJPC Youth Music Ministry exists to provide students of various ages with the opportunity to develop their musical talents in God’s service. Participants sing regularly in Sunday morning services.  Members also learn vocal techniques, basic musicianship, and ensemble performance skills. Periodically, the choirs also prepare and perform musicals or in special programs as a ministry and outreach opportunity for the church.

We have three Choirs, Sonshine Singers (K-2nd grade), Joyful Sound (3-6th grade), and Gloria Deo (7-12th grade).  To learn more about each choir please, click here.

Worship Team at the 8:45 am and 11 am Service
This versatile contemporary ensemble has as its core member guitarists, vocalists, a saxophonist, and LJPC organist Bill Lullo on piano or keyboard, with guest instrumentalists.  The team leads the praise singing in the two traditional Sunday services, and sometimes fills in for the Chancel choir.  It has an extensive repertoire of contemporary praise music, including songs composed by its own members.

Brass Ensemble- The brass choir is a volunteer group which is open to all brass and percussion players. We do ask that persons who wish to play have an intermediate ability to play their instrument. The ability to read music is a must. The La Jolla Brass currently consists of six trumpets, three French horns, two trombones, one bass trombone and a tuba. We practice every two weeks on Thursdays from 7-9 pm. Please contact Colin Wied, cww@cwwied.com if you are interested.

Adult Handbell Choir is open to musicians at all levels. We have five octaves of hand bells and three octaves of handchimes. The choir rehearses for one hour on Thursday evenings at 6:00 from September through June. Please contact Kathryn Kinslow, kinslow6@aol.com if you are interested in joining us!
